Scouting the Riviera Maya: Viceroy Hotel

Tucked away within the mega resorts of the Riviera Maya and next to a questionable-looking pirate-themed resort lies the Viceroy, a little slice of private heaven. The resort is small — just 41 rooms and two restaurants — but it doesn’t feel lacking. Rather, it seems like you’re in your own little jungle, with your own private hut and pool (literally).

This resort is a honeymooner’s dream. It offers plenty of privacy, luxury and comfort — you’ll never want to leave. And if you’re looking for an intimate destination wedding they can make that happen too. Check out the photos from our recent tour of the resort to see for yourself.

When you first arrive at the hotel you can receive a Mayan blessing, which is supposed to cleanse your spirit. After a long day of hotel hopping I did find the ritual oddly calming. See what it’s like below.

This is a Luxury Villa, otherwise known as the resort’s most basic room (if you can believe it). All the rooms are very similar, but the higher level villas have more space.

The bathrooms feature large soaking tubs and outdoor showers (there are indoor showers too if you don’t want to bathe with wildlife).

Each villa has an outdoor space with a private or semi-private pool. The villas further back in the jungle are more private and the ones closer to the ocean are more open (to give you the sea view).
